Welcome to Myriad Therapy

You Want to Feel at Home in Yourself and in Your Relationships

Therapy for Individuals & Couples in San Marcos & across California

Welcome to Myriad Therapy!

Hi, I'm Anne James, a licensed marriage and family therapist working with adults and couples in San Marcos and across California.

Maybe the same arguments keep happening no matter how hard you try, or you find yourself withdrawing, getting defensive, or shutting down right when you want to stay present. Maybe you're tired of feeling misunderstood, reactive, or alone. Or you're living with chronic pain that has taken over your sense of self. What you want is connection, relief, and steadier ground.

I specialize in trauma, relationship strain, life transitions, chronic pain and illness, and neurodivergence. Whether you come on your own or with your partner, we'll look at the patterns shaping your reactions, including how the nervous system drives both emotional and physical pain. My work is integrative and attachment-focused, drawing on EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, IFS-informed parts work, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy.

When we slow these patterns down together, you start to see what fuels the cycle, whether that's conflict with someone you love or a nervous system stuck in pain. I see clients in person in San Marcos and via telehealth throughout California, and I offer a free 20-minute consultation so we can see if we're a good fit.

My Therapy Philosophy

Trauma therapy and EMDR support for PTSD and childhood trauma healing

Much of what shapes how we move through life is learned quietly, through relationships, early experiences, and the ways we’ve adapted to stay safe or connected. Often, those adaptations were once necessary. They helped you cope, survive, or belong.

But over time, what once protected you can begin to feel limiting or unsustainable.

Therapy offers a space to gently understand these patterns with curiosity rather than judgment. Together, we’ll slow things down and look beneath the surface, at the emotions, histories, and relational dynamics influencing your present.

In that slowing down, something shifts. You gain clarity. You develop greater choice. You begin relating to yourself and others with more intention and connection.

My role is not to push or prescribe, but to walk alongside you, steady, attentive, and collaborative, as you move toward deeper understanding and lasting change.

Testimonials

My husband and I were going through a very rough patch in our marriage when we sought help with Anne James. Anne was very quick to pinpoint our issues through her intuitive observations. She is a superb listener and as always careful to check in with us to be sure she was correctly understanding what we were revealing during our sessions. I highly recommend Anne to anyone in need of a compassionate, no nonsense therapist with a kind, effective approach to emotional healing.
